Best Sub-Fief Placement: Dune Awakening
Early in your journey through Dune: Awakening, the tutorial tasks you with building a sub-fief in the South Hagga Basin. While that first placement is flexible, you will soon have the opportunity to build a new sub-fief almost anywhere on Arrakis—with a few restrictions. Certain map areas are blocked entirely, so you cannot place a sub-fief console there. Knowing where to set up your base can save you time and frustration, especially as you transition from early quests to open-world exploration.
Early Game Placement
For your first sub-fief after the tutorial, the smartest move is to stay close to the main quests your guide leads you through. This keeps travel minimal and progression smooth while you learn the game’s systems. The South Hagga Basin offers several good spots near these objectives, so you can focus on completing missions rather than crossing the map repeatedly.
Beyond the Basin
Once you leave the South Hagga Basin and unlock the sandbike, the full map of Arrakis opens up. You can place your sub-fief console nearly anywhere that isn’t restricted. This freedom lets you scout for a more strategic location based on your long-term goals.
Choosing a Mid-to-Late-Game Location
When selecting a permanent base site, weigh three criteria: centrality, nearby resources, and hazards. A central position reduces travel time to distant regions. Proximity to resources like spice fields, water, or rare materials ensures steady supply chains. Hazards—such as worm zones or hostile NPC areas—can make a location dangerous, so balance risk with reward.
