Free Fire OB51 Update – Key BR & SMG Changes Explained
The OB51 update for Free Fire represents one of the most significant patches in the game’s history, introducing sweeping changes to Battle Royale (BR) and Esports gameplay. From revised knockdown timers to a brand-new SMG variant, the update aims to shift the meta in multiple directions. Below is a breakdown of the most impactful alterations.
Knockdown and Rescue Mechanics
The knockdown timer has been drastically reduced from 35 seconds to 14 seconds for most situations, meaning downed players will bleed out much faster. However, short-range knockdowns—such as those caused by an MP4—still retain the original 35-second timer. Crawling speed after being knocked has increased by 35%, offering slightly more mobility. Notably, weapons like Rafael’s ability will still deplete HP at their previous rate, preserving their unique threat.
Thompson and Thompson X: SMG Meta Shift
The Thompson SMG now supports a 2x scope, joining the BZ and P90 as a viable mid-range option. Thompson base stats have been buffed: Damage +3%, Armor Penetration +5%, Range +10%, and Accuracy +5%. A new variant, Thompson X, elevates performance further with Damage +3%, Rate of Fire +8%, Armor Penetration +10%, Range +15%, and Reload Speed +15%. Even without skins, Thompson X performs strongly enough to potentially shift the SMG meta away from MP34, BZ, and P90. Its price value in CS Rank has also increased.
